Our summer was comprised of raising an octet of rascally pups. When they were old enough, they even came along on a family trip to a resort in North-central Minnesota, where they were very popular and received a lot of stimulation and socialization.

We took all the kids and all the dogs and hauled our new trailer down to do some camping under the fall colors along the Mississippi river in Iowa. Everyone did a fine job of it! We enjoyed hiking along the bluffs viewing the Native American effigies while the puppies got practice with their leashes.

We took the trailer, kids and dogs to the Wisconsin Dells for several days. Of course, you might as well stand there with your wallet open in the Dells. But the dogs were very well behaved, as were the kids. However, somewhere along the way we appear to have left a few leashes & collars behind. (It's always a drag breaking in new stiff replacement leather goods!)

The kids & I took Java to Denver to meet her "boyfriend". While we were there we enjoyed a peaceful & scenic drive into the mountains where Java got to romp free, a visit to the Denver Zoo, weaving around the red and striated rock formations in the Garden of the Gods, and exploring ancient Anasazi cliff dwellings.

Three-month-old Mattie came with us on our annual vacation to Bowen Lodge on Lake Winnebegoshish near Deer River, MN. She was on perfect behavior and enjoyed interacting with all the people, hanging around the campfire, the excitement of the woods and lake, and her naps in the fresh air.
